PARENT TESTIMONIALS

From Play to Words is such an amazing clinic. From our first intake with Jodi she is very kind, knowledgeable, and makes you feel extremely comfortable.

Sasha and all the staff we would see at the front end were always so inviting and we loved seeing them every session.

Then to our speech pathologist Bailey she is amazing. Our child’s language flourished attending sessions with Bailey. She cared so much about our sessions she always adapted to our child’s needs and wants. Always including interest based activities. Sending home many things we can implement in home and our everyday life that was comfortable and very understandable. Bailey always was there to answer any questions for me and make me feel comfortable when I was unsure about anything. As well as asking and ensuring I understood what we were doing in our sessions. She provided many print out resources to help us. Our child would get so excited when it was a “Bailey” day and would be so excited to come see everyone in the clinic.

Jayda Doorland

Jodi is amazing. Thank you for all your expectations. Thank you for pushing (my son) to succeed.

EMMA, EDMONTON

Thank you does not seem enough when other people tell my how well (my son) is talking now. Your extra effort and attention are so appreciated, you will never know how much. I have such confidence that the road will not be so rough. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

KRISTY, STONY PLAIN

Dear Jodi, We feel so lucky to have had you be our SLP this past year. (Our son) absolutely adores you and I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that he intuitively knows you really understand him and his (social) language challenges. We can’t thank you enough for your input to both his home and school plans. Your guidance has been invaluable.

KERI, EDMONTON

Dear Jodi, Thank you so much for all your hard work. You are the best SLP (our son) has ever had and we will be forever grateful. Thank you one million times over.

DIANE, SPRUCE GROVE

(It) has been rewarding to see our child respond so positively to one on one direct therapy. I have seen growth and progress (in 3 sessions). Our child is also HIGHLY responsive/motivated by (Jodi’s) enthusiasm and energetic personality! I feel supported and equipped to encourage communication verbally for my child with refreshing/new ideas and specific, clear strategies.

KAREN, EDMONTON

The words to play team have provided amazing resources and support for our family. They have made connections to other resources for my youngest that no one else made us aware of within our school division. We are so thankful for their ongoing support.

Louise Reid

The support provided from the team at FPTW has been instrumental in guiding my family through our neurodiverse challenges. Their assistive programs and parent seminars have directed my son and I towards so many growth opportunities. The in-home support staff we were blessed to work with (Brandy and Levina) gave me new insight on strategies that I as a parent could implement towards encouraging independence and self-advocacy for my child, and the Social Skills group run by Yvonne continues to guide him with peer interactions and understanding expected behaviour. Thank you for your knowledge and encouragement, I am so grateful for everything you do for our family.

Markelle St. Laurent

We had an amazing experience with Play to Words. Our daughter just finished her sessions with Sarah and we cannot recommend this business enough. Sarah was so great with our daughter, she kept it fun! They laughed, they played and she always left happy. It was so rewarding for our daughter (and us) to see her progress through her sessions. Thank you Sarah and the whole Play to Words team!

Breanna Gibb

We live out in Canmore, and getting speech support for my son left us on long wait lists and no help. I reached out to From Play to Words to see if they could hep us remotely. They were more than accomodating with setting up online sessions for my son who at the time had a moderate speech delay. With their fun filled sessions that got him engaged and excited, they also were so helpful in supporting me on tips and tricks to support at home. I honestly love the online approach as it allowed us the flexibility of doing them even on vacation. My little guy has since been discharged because he has no speech delays! Thanks Micheala and the team at From Play to Words for supporting us remotely and helping my little guy.

jodi sommer

Jodi Sommer has been working as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) in the Edmonton area for over ten years. She has been active in both the autism and Down syndrome community throughout this time, offering both individual and group consultative services. Jodi has worked in Early Education classrooms and provided consultative services to a number of school districts and preschool settings.

Jodi is highly sought after for her motor speech therapy approach, PROMPT. Jodi is one of 40 Certified PROMPT Instructors in the world, and one of three in Canada, and travels to teach other SLPs about motor speech treatment.

Jodi also holds advanced training in Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking®, having trained under Michelle and her staff in San Jose, CA. Jodi provides highly specialized and original social communication curriculum that is engaging and promotes generalization at home and school.

Jodi's play-based but systematic approach to language treatment sets her apart from other agencies. She provides parent training and practice in small increments that build on each other and can be completed easily in daily activities, reducing the stress of additional homework on already busy families.

Therapy at From Play to Words is silly, loud and fun! It is a "You can do it! Let me help you!" environment. Jodi is constantly building on client's strengths to increase skills across the Cognitive-Linguistic, Physical-Sensory and Social-Emotional domains.

Jodi only hires SLPs that she has personally trained. Her staff is hand-picked for their knowledge-base and she has exceptionally high standards. Jodi's teams have diverse experience in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) including PECS, PODD, Tobii, TouchChat and Proloquo2Go.
